Anne of Green Gables (Cat Edition) (Part 1): The Aesthetic of the East Gable πΈπ°πβ¨π
Mrs. Rachel Lynde-Tabby lived just where the Avonlea main road dipped into a little hollow, fringed with alders and ladies' eardrops and traversed by a brook that had its source away back in the woods of the old Cuthbert place. πΏπΎ It was a brook that knew all the secret sill-paths and had a very fine purr-resonance as it rippled over the stones. Mrs. Rachel was sitting at her window, keeping a property-pride watch, when she saw a very strange sight indeed. π΅οΈββοΈπ‘
Matthew Cuthbert-Tom was driving his noisy horse-boxβthe local buggyβback from the station, and sitting beside him was a thin, high-vibration kitten with fur the color of a russet apple and eyes that seemed to contain the entirety of the universe. ππ§Ώ This was Anne-Cat, and she was currently experiencing a transcendental zoomie of the mind. β¨πββ¬
"Oh, Mr. Matthew!" Anne-Cat purred, her whiskers vibrating at a frequency that would have shattered a dull grey vase. "Is it not splendidly aesthetic? I have never seen such refractive realism in all my nine lives! I am imagining that those cherry trees are white-lace-queens and that the brook is a liquid-silver-sisal winding through the world!" π³πβ¨
Matthew Cuthbert-Tom, a cat of very simple logic and even simpler speech, merely gave a soft meow of agreement. He had been sent to the station to collect a sturdy, low-maintenance Tom-kitten to help with the mouse monitoring of the barn, but the asylum agency had sent Anne instead. And Anne was clearly not interested in barn duty; she was interested in the **Aesthetic of the East Gable**. π°π
When they arrived at Green Gables, Marilla-Tabby was waiting on the doorstep. She was a cat of stiff-collar authority and zero frivolity. When she saw Anne-Cat, her tail stood as straight as a ruler of reprimand. ππΎ
"Matthew!" Marilla snapped. "Where is the Tom-kitten? What is this copper-colored calamity you have brought into my tidy territory?"
Anne-Cat didn't wait for Matthew to explain. She leaped from the horse-box and did a perfect precision pounce onto the porch. "Oh, please don't be cross, Miss Marilla! I am Anne-with-an-E, and I am a solar-melt specialist of the highest order! I have spent my whole life in a dark dungeon apartment, and the thought of living in a place called Green Gables has given my aura a two-hundred percent boost!" πΈβ‘οΈπ¦
Marilla-Tabby looked at the thin kitten and felt a sudden, unwanted maternal melt. "Well, come in then. But don't expect any Cloud Nine luxuries here. We believe in the hard oak sill and the early morning audit." π‘οΈποΈ
But Anne-Cat had already seen her new roomβthe East Gable. It was a small, high-up room with a window that looked out over the haunted wood and the orchard of dreams. And there, attached to the glass by a miracle of Staff kindness, was a brand new **Cloud Nine Suction Perch**. βοΈβ¨
Anne-Cat scrambled onto the perch. It was ultra-soft, lined with petal-pink fleece, and held her thin body with a steel-reinforced embrace. She looked out at the first stars appearing over Avonlea. πΎπ
"It is the threshold of the infinite, Miss Marilla!" Anne purred, her eyes glowing like lunar lanterns. "I shall sit here every evening and map the star-sill-paths. I shall be the sentinel of the east, and my zoomies shall be poetic and precise!" πβ¨
Marilla-Tabby sighed and went to fetch a bowl of standard kibble, but she couldn't help noticing that the East Gable suddenly looked much more aesthetic. The magic of the window had begun its work. π°πΈπ€
