Heidi of the High Perch (Part 2): The General of the Goats πππΎ
The first night on the high perch was magical. Heidi slept curled against her grandfather's fluffy side, listening to the gentle rumble of his snoring, which sounded like a distant thunderstorm over the Alps. ποΈπ©οΈ
But when the morning sun broke through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air, Heidi was ready for adventure. She peeked over the edge of the Sun-Soaker Tower. Far below, on the plush green carpet (the meadow), something was moving. πΏπ
It was a young tabby cat, wiry and energetic. He was batting a collection of small, furry objects across the floor with intense concentration. Heidi, her tail quivering with excitement, scrambled down the sisal posts, claws gripping the rope like a true mountaineer. π§ββοΈπ
"Who are you?" she chirped, landing with a soft thud beside him.
The tabby paused, a grey mouse dangling from his mouth. "I am Peter," he mumbled around the toy. "General of the Goats." ποΈπ
"Goats?" Heidi tilted her head. She saw only a scattered army of catnip mice, a decapitated feather wand, and several crinkle balls.
"Yes," Peter said solemnly, dropping the mouse. "These are my flock. I must herd them to the glorious pasture of the Floral Garden Perch." He pointed a paw toward a window seat covered in faux leaves. "The grazing is best there. But watch out for the Vacuum beast. It eats strays." πβ οΈ
Heidi's eyes widened. "Can I help? I'm very good at pouncing."
"You are small," Peter noted, echoing Grandfather. "But fast. Very well. You may be the Lieutenant of the Crinkle Ball Division."
For hours, they romped through the meadows of the living room. They chased the elusive Red Dot across the rug. They ambushed the unsuspecting human ankles that dared to cross their path. They wrestled until they were tangled in a heap of fur and purrs. π§ΆπΉ
Peter showed Heidi the secret places: the dark cave under the sofa, the sunny spot that moved across the floor as the day went on, and the Forbidden Counter where the treats were kept (though they dared not jump up there yet). π«π
When evening fell, and the Resident Staff called out "Dinner!", Peter gathered his flock into a pile under the coffee table. "Good work, Lieutenant," he purred. "Tomorrow, we conquer the Stairs."
Heidi climbed back up the tower to her Grandfather, exhausted but happy. The old Persian watched her ascend, a flicker of amusement in his golden eyes. "So, you survived the General?" he grumbled.
"He has many goats," Heidi yawned, curling up. "And tomorrow... we climb even higher." π€β°οΈ
