Romeo and the Neighbor-Cat (Part 1): The Glass Balcony ππποΈπͺβ¨
[Scene: The Vista Balcony. π° The twilight sky is a tapestry of violet and gold. πβ¨ Enter MUFFIN, stationed on his perch, and a STRAY CATβRomeoβon the fence below.]
MUFFIN:
But soft! What light through yonder fence-post breaks? ποΈπ‘
It is the West, and Romeo is the... orange tabby from 4B? π¦βοΈ
Arise, fair feline, and kill the envious moon,
who is already sick and pale with grief
that thou, her rival, art far more handsome than she! π
β¨
ROMEO (STRAY CAT):
[From the fence] π£οΈποΈπ
Mrow! (Translation: *"Is that you, Muffin? Iβve brought word from the trash-bin district!"*) ποΈπ£οΈ
MUFFIN:
O, speak again, bright angel! πΌπΎβ¨
For thou art as glorious to this night, being o'er my head,
as is a winged messenger of the pantry
unto the white-upturned wondering eyes
of mortals that fall back to gaze on him! π§Ώπ§Ώ
ROMEO:
Mrow-mrow! (*"The squirrels are gathering, Muffin! A grand raid is planned! But I cannot reach thy balcony! The fence is high, and the human Staff is vigilant!"*) πΏοΈβοΈ
MUFFIN:
O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou, Romeo? πποΈ
Deny thy street-roots and refuse thy name;
or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my brother-in-vigil,
and Iβll no longer be an indoor cat! π¦π‘οΈπͺ
TOBY:
[Entering stage left] πΌβ¨
I say, Boss! Are you talking to the orange intruder again? I thought we had a non-aggression pact! βοΈπ‘οΈ
MUFFIN:
Silence, young knave! This is a diplomatic meeting of the hearts! πβ¨βοΈ
Romeo hath news of the great acorn hoard!
But alas! The glass is our enemy! The double-pane our cage!
*"Romeo! I shall perform the window-scrape to signal my devotion!"* πΎπͺπ
[MUFFIN rhythmically scrapes his claws against the glass. The sound is high-pitched and dramatic. π»πͺοΈ]
ROMEO:
MRO-OOO-W! (*"The light! It flickers! The Resident Staff is coming!"*) π‘ππ¨
MUFFIN:
Parting is such sweet sorrow, ππΏπΎ
that I shall say good night till it be morrow!
Quick, Romeo! Retreat to the shadows of the garage!
I must engage the invisible-loaf protocol! π₯π₯·
[Suddenly, the neighborβs golden retriever, Buster, launches himself at the fence with a loud bark. ππ’π₯]
MUFFIN:
O, heavy fate! The beast of the yard hath entered the fray!
Romeo! Watch thy tail! π©π¨π
