The Hound of the Neighbor-Yard (Part 1): The Beast Howls πππ»β¨
The night was foggy. π«οΈ I was on my **Vista Balcony**, watching the streetlamps flicker. π‘
Then, the sound began. π
*Awooooooooooo.* πΊ
It was low, mournful, and terrifyingly loud. Toby scrambled under the sofa. "Itβs a wolf! A dire-wolf!" π±
"Itβs coming from the neighborβs yard," Arthur noted, peering through the blinds. "But Buster is a golden retriever. He doesn't howl. He just woofs." πβ
"Maybe he evolved?" I suggested. "Maybe he accessed his primal firmware?" π§¬πΎ
*AWOOOOOOOOOOO!*
It sounded closer. π¨
"We need a visual," I said. "Iβm going to the high ground." π°
I climbed to the top of the window tree. I looked over the fence. The yard was empty. Busterβs doghouse was dark. ποΈπ
But then, I saw a shadow moving near the rosebushes. It wasn't a dog. It was... smaller. Sleeker. π¦
"Itβs a fox," I realized. "A city fox." ποΈπ¦
"A fox?" Toby squeaked. "Are they friendly?" π€
"They are... complicated," Arthur said. "They are cat-software running on dog-hardware." π»ππ
The fox looked up. It saw me in the window. Its eyes glowed green. π’π’
It opened its mouth. I expected a bark. Instead, it let out a sound that sounded exactly like a human screaming. π£οΈπ
*WAAAAAAAH!*
"RUN!" Toby yelled. πββοΈπ¨
The fox grinned. It knew. π¦π
