Around the House in Eighty Naps (Part 2): The Final Sprint ποΈβ±οΈπβ¨πΎ
The time was 17:00 on the final day. π Phileas-Muffin and Toby-Passepartout were stationed at the edge of the basement abyss, looking up at the grand staircase summit. π§ββοΈ We were at nap number seventy-eight. π
"Two naps left, Boss!" Toby shrieked, his ginger fur vibrating with a high-stakes exhaustion. "But the dog-zone has expanded! Buster is currently performing a level-ten hallway blocking melt!" ππ₯π«
Indeed, the neighborβs dog had been brought inside for a playdate, and he was currently occupying the entire width of the main corridor. π°π Ned-Arthur and the Reform Club were waiting at the far end of that hallway. To win the truffles, we had to pass the beast without waking him. π‘οΈπ₯
"Logic, Toby! We must use the **Sky-Climber Step Set**!" I trilled, coiling my body for a vertical launch. πποΈ "The steps are mounted to the window glass. They offer an entirely efficient bypass of the dog-zone. Follow my lead!"
We scrambled up the suction-mounted steps. π§ββοΈ The sky-climber system held our weight with a rock-solid, industrial-grade stability. π§²π‘οΈ From this high altitude, we could see Busterβs massive golden ears twitching in the snore-sync. ππ€ We moved from step to step with the stealth of the first lions.
But thenβthe fix-agent! Purr-Fix, the neighborβs cat, appeared on the window sill outside. πΎπͺ He began to perform a rhythmic, high-frequency window-scrape to alert the dog. πΎπͺπ
"Betrayal!" Toby hissed. "Heβs trying to trigger a bark event!" ππ’π₯
I didn't blink. I engaged my aero-dynamic scramble. π¦ π I launched from the final step, bypassed the dog-zone entirely, and landed on the plush carpet of the library. Toby followed a microsecond later. We were within sight of the radiator! π°π₯
But Arthur-Sullivan was looking at his watchβhis internal biological clock. π΄π°οΈ "You are late, Muffin! It is nap number eighty-one! The truffles belong to the Reform Club!" πππ
I felt a wave of total system failure. ππ³ Had my calculations failed? Had the sofa sea consumed too many minutes?
Suddenly, the Resident Staff walked in, holding a smartphone. π·ββοΈπ± "Oh, hey guys. Did you know we entered a new time zone? The daylight savings spring forward just happened. Itβs actually an hour earlier than the clocks say." π§ͺβ¨
Toby shrieked with joy. "The international nap-line! Boss, we didn't lose an hour... we *gained* one!" πβ±οΈπ
My pupils expanded. π§Ώπ§Ώ "Arthur! By the laws of the domestic chronosphere, we are at nap number seventy-nine! The truffles are ours!" πππ¦
Arthur looked at the Staff. He looked at the radiator. He let out a long, dignified sigh. "A bet is a bet, Muffin. The Reform Club acknowledges your... punctuality." βοΈπ€
We feasted that evening on the largest pile of premium truffles the house had ever seen. ππ Toby fell into nap number eighty instantly, his chin resting on a sky-climber step. π€πΎ
I sat atop the **Modernist Pedestal Perch**, looking out at the neighborhood. π°ποΈ I had circumnavigated the kingdom. I had faced the Kraken, bypassed the beast, and conquered the nap-line.
"Was it worth it, Muffin?" Arthur purred, sharing a corner of the perch. "The exhaustion? The high-altitude drama?" π΅π§ͺ
"The journey is the reward, Arthur," I replied, my whiskers sensing the first beams of the morning sun. "But the truffles... the truffles are a very close second." π₯β¨π¦π
The Moral of the Story: *Time is relative, but a good window perch is an absolute.* ππ¦π°β¨
