Kidnapped-Kit (Part 2): The Flight Across the Floorboards ποΈπ€οΈβοΈβ¨πΎ
The flight of the felines began at the stroke of four AM, the hour of the vast silence. π I, David-Muffin, followed the dapper tail of Alan-Breck-Arthur as we descended from the attic-exile. π§ββοΈ We were not moving with the erratic zoomie energy of kittens; we were moving with the predatory precision of the Highland lions. π¦π‘οΈβ¨
"Stay to the shadows, lad," Alan-Breck-Arthur whispered, his voice a low-frequency hum. "The dog-zone is active tonight. Buster the golden retriever is patrolling the hallway with a high level of snore-vibration. One misstep on a creaky floorboard, and we are... borked." ππ’π±
We navigated the kitchen narrows with entirely efficient stealth. π₯· The floor was cold linoleum, a terrain of high friction and low prestige. π We bypassed the giant white boxβthe fridgeβand headed for the grand staircase. This was the pass of the shadows, the only way back to the master bedroom. π°ποΈ
Suddenly, a figure appeared at the top of the stairs. It was Ebenezer-Cat, my treacherous uncle! πΎβοΈ He had heard our approach with his scoundrel ears. Beside him stood a pair of enforcement catsβtwo heavy-set British Shorthairs who looked like they enjoyed a bit of rough-housing. πΎπΎπ₯
"So, the fugitive returns!" Ebenezer hissed, his fur bristling with a greedy static. β‘ "You want the high window, David? Youβll have to cross the chasm of the hallway first! And my friends here are quite fond of boundary enforcement." π‘οΈπ₯π₯
Alan-Breck-Arthur didn't blink. He drew his silver-vine amulet and performed a grand Highland hiss. π£π¦ "Ebenezer, you are a cat of small stature and even smaller honor! Stand aside, or prepare to meet the sisal saber!" βοΈπΏβ¨
The skirmish was short but intense. π₯ Arthur engaged the two enforcers with a series of spiral pounces and tactical tail-whips that left them dizzy and confused. π€ΈββοΈπ I, however, had a different mission. I saw the **Modular Window Bridge**βa series of connectable perches that spanned the gap between the hallway and the master bedroom window. π€οΈπͺβ¨
It was my only path. The bridge was a highly efficient piece of hardware, designed for high-altitude transit. ποΈπ‘οΈ I launched myself onto the first segment. *Click-grip.* πΎ The high-grip surface held my paws as I sprinted across the urban void. ππ¨
"Heβs crossing the bridge!" Ebenezer screamed, launching himself after me. πΎπ
But the bridge was modular! I had spent hours watching the Resident Staff install it. I knew the secret. I reached the third segment and gave the quick-release latch a sharp, short paw-tap. β‘π
*Snap-drop.* ποΈπ₯
The bridge segment disconnected just as Ebenezer reached it. My uncle, with a yowl of financial despair, tumbled onto the soft, plush rug belowβa safe landing, but a blow to his dignity. πποΈπ€£
I reached the final perchβthe **Cloud Nine Suction Perch** of the master bedroom. π°βοΈβ¨ I was home! The sun was just beginning to peek over the horizon, casting a golden glow across my inheritance. βοΈππ
Alan-Breck-Arthur joined me a moment later, breathing a bit hard but looking remarkably dapper. π΅π¦ "A fine crossing, David-Muffin! A fine crossing indeed! You have the heart of a Highlander and the paws of a master engineer." π€β¨
The Resident Staff walked in, yawning and stretching. π·ββοΈ They saw us sitting together on the high perch, the morning sun warming our fur. π₯πβοΈ
"Well, look at you two," the human smiled. "I didn't know you guys were friends. And how did that bridge segment come loose? You cats are a mystery." π·ββοΈπ€²β¨
I looked at Arthur, and he gave me a single, slow-motion Highland blink. π§Ώπ§Ώβ¨ The House of Shaws was reclaimed. The attic exile was a mere memory. And the window? The window was more beautiful than I had ever imagined. π°ππ¦π
The Moral of the Story: *A cat who knows his hardware is never truly kidnapped.* ποΈπ¦π‘οΈβ¨
