The Ballad of the Window-Fly: A Rhyming Rivalry ๐ชฐโ๏ธ๐ฑโจ
The morning was calm and the sun was quite bright, โ๏ธ
I settled myself for a nap in the light.
But then came a sound that was shrill and quite near,
a buzzing so loud it offended my ear! ๐๐
I looked at the glass where the intruder sat, ๐ช
a fly with no manners, imagine that!
He cleaned all his legs with a mischievous grin,
thinking heโd safe in the spot he was in. ๐พ
"I say!" cried young Toby, with eyes wide and round, ๐งฟ
"A target has entered, and look what Iโve found!
Heโs walking on air, or so it would seem,
right in the middle of our favorite beam!" โ๏ธโจ
I sat up with dignity, regal and tall, ๐ฆ
to show that this fly didn't scare me at all.
But inside my brain, the hunter was waking,
my whiskers were twitching, my tail was a-shaking! ๐ฉโก
There once was a fly on the pane,
who thought he would drive me insane.
He buzzed in my nose,
then sat on my toes,
a creature both bold and quite vain! ๐ชฐ๐
I launched from the tower with speed and with grace, ๐
determined to put this small bug in his place.
My paws hit the glass with a heavy-duty thwack,
but the fly simply dodged and then came right back! ๐๐ฅ
"The forcefield!" I trilled, with a frustrated sigh,
"it protects all the birds but it also guards flies!
I bap and I pounce, but he stays on the glass,
a tactical error, a pain in the... grass!" ๐๐พ
The fly did a loop-de-loop flight,
to mock my great feline-ish might.
I gave him a stare,
then leaped in the air,
and hit the new curtains, so bright! ๐งฃ๐๐
The Resident Staff heard the crash and the noise, ๐ทโโ๏ธ
"Muffin!" they cried, "give up on your toys!
The fly is outside, can't you see through the clear?
There's nothing to catch and there's nothing to fear." ๐๐ซ
Outside? How embarrassing! I took a seat, ๐ฅ
and groomed all the dust off my very white feet.
Iโd been hunting a shadow, a ghost, or a trick,
the fly on the other sideโthat was the kick! ๐ฆถโก
But Toby was happy, he didn't quite care, ๐ผ
he chased his own tail and he jumped in the air.
While Arthur just purred from his radiator throne,
"The best hunt, my dear, is the one done alone." ๐ต๐งชโจ
So if you see me with my nose to the glass, ๐๐
watching the bugs and the butterflies pass,
remember the ballad of the fly on the pane,
a cat and his window... a joy and a bane! ๐ถ๐๐ฆ
