The meow came again. *"Let... me... out..."* 🗯️

I stood my ground, my fur puffed to its full capacity. "Identify yourself, intruder! This is my hallway! This is my rug!" 🦁🛡️⚔️

Suddenly, the Resident Staff walked in, holding a screwdriver. 👷‍♂️ They saw us huddled around the closet door. "Oh! You found it! I was just getting ready to set it up."

The Staff opened the door. There, on the floor, was not a secret sibling. Not a shadow-cat. But a large cardboard box labeled *"The Cyber-Bird 3000."* 🤖🐦✨

And from inside the box came the voice: *"Let... me... out... and... play..."* 🗣️🔊

"It’s a machine, Toby," I realized, my heart slowing down to a normal purr-frequency. "A vocal decoy. The red feather was just a component!" 🪶🧪

The Staff lifted the lid. Out came a long, flexible wand with a cluster of bright red feathers at the end. But the base of the wand had a small speaker and a motion sensor. 🧿✨

"See?" the human laughed, waving the wand. "It talks when you pounce on it!" 👷‍♂️🤲🚀

Toby, being a kitten of low logical standards, immediately forgot his fear and launched a level-ten zoomie attack on the Cyber-Bird. 🚀💨💥

*"Gotcha!"* the bird squeaked as Toby pinned the red feathers to the rug. *"Nice... jump... Big... Cat..."* 🗣️😂

"I say, Muffin!" Toby trilled, his ginger face buried in the synthetic fluff. "It’s a talking snack! It’s the best toy ever!" 🍗😋🎉

I sat down and began to groom my ruff with exaggerated executive indifference. *"I knew it was a mechanical anomaly all along, Toby,"* my posture declared. *"I was simply conducting a stress-test on the Resident Staff’s sense of humor."* 💅😼

The mystery was solved. The rival was a toy. And the hallway? Well, it was now a high-decibel battle-zone of feathers and laughter. 🏆🦁✨🥞
