The Sign of the Muddy Paw (Part 2): The Chimney Reveal 🐾🔥🧤✨🐾

The chimney sweep let out a raspy cough. 🗣️🌑 I stood my ground on the **Minimalist Wire Perch**, my tail at its full security wag. 🚩🦁

"Identify yourself, soot-walker!" I demanded. "This fireplace is under sovereign protection!" 🏰🛡️

*"Easy, Big Cat,"* the voice rumbled. *"I’m just Smokey. I was chasing a very fast moth across the roof when I took a wrong turn at the flue. I’ve been in this vertical cage for six hours!"* 🦋📉🏚️

Smokey! I looked at Arthur. "He’s a roof-runner, Arthur. A high-altitude specialist." 🦅🐈‍⬛

Suddenly, the Resident Staff walked in, holding a vacuum cleaner. 👷‍♂️🌪️ They saw the muddy prints. They saw me staring up the chimney.

"Muffin? What did you do?" the human sighed, looking at the soot. But then, they heard the meow. 👂

"Oh my god! Is there a cat in there?" 👷‍♂️🙀

The Staff moved with surprising agility. They opened the damper. They used a long-handled brush to create a feline ladder. 🪜✨ And then, out tumbled Smokey—a very black, very dusty, and very embarrassed neighborhood cat. 🐾🌑

He looked at the white sofa. He looked at the Staff. He looked at me. 🧿🧿

*"Nice place you got here,"* Smokey rasped, shaking a cloud of soot off his ears. *"A bit too much white fabric for my taste, but the radiator vibes are solid."* 👵🌡️✨

The Staff didn't even yell. They wrapped Smokey in a warm towel—the rescue-pelts—and gave him a bowl of mountain-spring water. 🧣🥣😋 After a quick check-up, they let him out the back door.

Smokey gave me a final, respectful nose-nudge through the screen. 👃✨ *"Stay safe in your acrylic bubble, Muffin. The roof is wild, but the salmon-service here is five-star."* 🐟🏙️💨

The sign was solved. The intruder was a guest. And the white sofa? Well, the human spent the next hour cleaning it, but I think they were just happy the ghost had a name. 🧼💖🦁
