The Tale of Peter-Pounce (Part 5)
Old Mrs. Tabby-Cat did not say a word. π€« She merely placed the blue bowtie on the rug and gave Peter-Pounce a look that was more powerful than a dozen spray-bottles. It was the Look of the Disappointed Mother. π«ππΏ
"Peter," she said finally, her voice low and soft. "Where have you been? Your fur is full of potting soil, your whiskers are dusty, and your sisters have been worried sick." πͺ΄π¨π
Peter-Pounce looked at his paws. They *were* very dirty. And he realized that he had been so busy being a "King" and a "Space-Pod Pilot" that he had forgotten the most important rule of the Library: Never Worry the Mother. πΎππ
"I... I was in the Sun-Room Garden," Peter whispered. "And the Laundry Room. And the Ladder-Tree. And the Bubble-Pod." πΏπ§Ίπ§ββοΈπ«§
"That is a lot of 'Ands' for one small kitten," his mother sighed. "You are very lucky the Resident Staff is a patient person. They found your bowtie in the garden and brought it back, fearing the worst." ππ‘οΈβ¨
Flopsy-Fur, Mopsy-Mew, and Cotton-Tail-Kit emerged from the armchair, looking relieved. They began to groom Peter-Pounce all at once, their tongues sandpaper-soft against his dirty fur. π πΎπ¦
"Youβre a very naughty brother," Flopsy-Fur meowed. "But weβre glad the Monster didn't get you." π‘οΈπͺοΈπ¦
Peter-Pounce felt his heart melt. He realized that while adventure was grand, the love of his family was even grander. He allowed them to clean his ears and smooth his ruffled pride. π¦πβ¨
"Now," his mother said, "it is time for the 'Evening-Rest.' But you cannot stay in the armchair tonight, Peter. You are still a bit too 'outdoor-smelling.' You shall sleep on the **Velvet Horizon Perch** in the Guest Room. It is a luxurious, velvet-lined sanctuary with extra deep cushioning, perfect for a kitten who needs to reflect on his choices." π°ποΈπ‘οΈπ€
Peter-Pounce trotted to the Guest Room. The Velvet Horizon Perch was indeed magnificent. It was attached to the window with hidden support wires, making it look as if it were floating against the glass. The velvet was a deep, royal purple, and the memory foam base was so soft it felt like sinking into a dream. ππ€β¨π
He climbed in. The height was just rightβnot too high to be scary, but high enough to feel separate from the floor. He looked out at the moon, which was a large, silver saucer in the sky. ππβ¨
"I am a 'Reflective-Cat' now," Peter-Pounce whispered to himself. π§ββοΈπ€
As he lay there, the warmth of the room and the softness of the velvet began to work their magic. He thought about the Gardener-Rabbit and the Mechanical Monster. He thought about the Blue Cloud and the Space-Pod. π§ ππ°πͺοΈβοΈπ«§
He realized that every place he had visited had its own "View." The Garden was for action, the Laundry Room was for hiding, the Ladder-Tree was for safety, and the Bubble-Pod was for wonder. But the **Velvet Horizon Perch**... the Velvet Horizon was for peace. π‘οΈπ π§ββοΈβ¨
He fell into a deep, dreamless sleep, his paws twitching as he chased imaginary butterflies through a garden made of silk. He was no longer the naughty kitten who ran away; he was a kitten who had learned the value of the "Hearth." π€ππ¦β¨
