The Great Catsby (Part 3): The Reunion at Tea-Time π«ππΈπ»βοΈ
The day agreed upon was pouring rain. π§οΈ It was a "Sky-String" day of epic proportions. Catsby was pale as death, with his paws plunged like weights in his coat pockets, standing in a puddle of water glaring tragically into my eyes. πΏπ§
"It's too late," he whispered. "She's not coming. I'm going home. I can't wait all day."
"Don't be silly," I said. "It's just two minutes to four." β°
Daisy Purr-chanan arrived in an open car (a laundry basket carried by the Staff). She was beautiful, with a voice that sounded like moneyβor perhaps, like the jingle of a very expensive collar. π§Ίπ°π
"Are you in love with me?" she whispered, "or why did I have to come alone?" π»π
When she saw Catsby, she let out a little cry. They stared at each other for a long time. Then Catsby began to throw things. π§£π
He took out a pile of collarsβshirts, he called themβand began throwing them one by one before us, shirts of sheer linen and thick silk and fine flannel, which lost their folds as they fell and covered the table in many-colored disarray. ππ
"They're such beautiful shirts," she sobbed, her voice muffled in the thick folds. "It makes me sad because I've never seen suchβsuch beautiful shirts before." ππ
Catsby beamed. He had done it. He had impressed her. He led us to the window, where the rain had stopped and the sun was breaking through. βοΈπ
"Look," he said, pointing to the **Floral Garden Perch** attached to the glass. "It's a garden, Daisy. A garden just for you. We can sit there and watch the green light together." πΈπΏπ’
Daisy climbed onto the perch. She looked at the faux foliage and the soft green fleece. "It's perfect, Jay," she purred. "It's absolutely aesthetic." π°π β¨
But as I watched them, I wondered if the reality of the perch could ever match the colossal vitality of Catsby's illusion. No amount of floral decor can compete with a ghost. π»πΈπ
