The Many Adventures of Muffin-Pooh (Part 3)
The Old Grey Cat, Eeyore, stood by himself in a thistly corner of the Laundry Room, looking at himself in a puddle of spilled water. π§Ίπ«οΈπ« "Pathetic," he murmured, his long, droopy whiskers twitching. "That's what it is. Pathetic. No sun. No tuna. Just damp socks and a drafty floor." π§¦π¬οΈπΏ
Muffin-Pooh and Piglet-Kit wandered in, looking very bright and cheerful after a morning spent investigating the "Great Kitchen Crumb-Fall." π―π·π±π₯β¨
"Hullo, Eeyore!" Pooh cried. "How are you today?" π―π¦
"Not very," Eeyore replied. "I don't seem to have felt 'how' for a long time. Not that it matters. One day is much like another when you're a cat of no particular consequence." π«οΈπ
"But it's a beautiful day!" Piglet-Kit squeaked. "The Sky-Blinker is out, and the Flying-Things are very busy!" βοΈπ¦π
"I wouldn't know," Eeyore said, looking at a particularly large grey sock. "I don't have a View. I have a Laundry Room. It's a very good room for thinking about things like 'Why?' and 'When?' and 'Is there a point?'" π§¦π§ π«οΈ
Pooh looked at Eeyore's thistly corner. It *was* a bit grey. And it was very far from the window. π ππ
Eeyore," Pooh said, "I think you need a Change of Perspective. I think you need to see the Wide-Wide-World." ππ¦β¨
"The Wide-Wide-World," Eeyore scoffed. "Probably full of vacuums and dogs. No thank you. I'll stay here and contemplate the lint." π§Ίππ¬οΈ
"But it's not!" Pooh insisted. "It's full of Green-Things and Sky-Strings! And we have a **Vista Balcony Box** in the Guest Room. It's an internal box that lets you see everything without actually being 'Out.' It's very safe, Eeyore. No vacuums allowed." πΏπ π‘οΈβ¨
Eeyore sighed, a sound like a heavy door closing. "I suppose I could look. Just to confirm that it's as disappointing as I imagine." π«οΈπͺ
They led Eeyore to the Guest Room. The Vista Balcony Box was a marvel of feline architecture. It had clear acrylic walls that gave a 180-degree view of the garden, a ventilated base for fresh scents, and a very soft, very grey rug that Pooh thought Eeyore would appreciate. π°ππΏποΈ
Eeyore stepped into the box. He looked out. He saw the Green-Things swaying in the breeze. He saw a squirrel performing a very undignified scramble up an oak tree. He saw the blue sky stretching away into the infinite. πΏπΏοΈπ
He stayed there for a long time, his nose pressed against the acrylic. π§Ώ
"Well?" Piglet-Kit asked, his tail twitching with anticipation. "Is it... is it disappointing?" π
Eeyore turned around. His whiskers weren't quite so droopy. "It's... it's interesting," he admitted. "I saw a bird. It was looking at a worm. The worm was not having a very good day. I found that very relatable." π¦πͺ±π€
"But the view, Eeyore!" Pooh cried. "Isn't it grand?" β¨π¦
"It's a lot of 'Out,'" Eeyore said. "But the box is quite 'In.' It's a nice compromise. I can see the chaos of the world from a position of relative stability. I think I might stay here for a while. Just to see if the squirrel falls off." π°ποΈπΏοΈ
"That's the spirit, Eeyore!" Pooh said, patting his friend on the shoulder. "A View-of-One's-Own is a very powerful thing." π€π‘οΈβ¨
"I suppose," Eeyore said, settling onto the grey rug. "It's better than socks. Not that I'm complaining about socks. Socks have their place. But this... this is almost aesthetic." π§¦π β¨
Pooh and Piglet-Kit left Eeyore in his Balcony Box. As they walked away, they heard a very faint, very gravelly sound. πποΈ
"Was that... was that a purr?" Piglet-Kit whispered. π
"I think it was," Pooh said, his heart feeling very warm indeed. "It was a very small, very grey purr. But it's a start." π¦ππ«οΈ
And the Hundred-Acre Living Room felt a little bit brighter that afternoon, for even the gloomiest cat had found his window to the world. βοΈππ β¨
